Self-shipping Carrd
What is 'self-shipping'?
> 'Self shipping' is the act of shipping oneself with one or more fictional character(s) called an F/O, short for 'fictional other'.> These ships may be romantic, platonic, or familial.> Self-shippers might create a self-insert OC in the universe of their F/O.
The term 'yumejoshis'
> "夢女子" (yumejoshi, lit. "dreaming girl") is a term used by female self-shippers in the Japanese fandom.> The male version of this term is 夢男子 (yumedanshi, lit. "dreaming boy") and the gender-neutral version of this term is 夢人 (yumejin, lit. "dreaming person")> Some self-shippers (not all of them) may call themselves by these terms.
Debunking misconceptions
"Isn't this just being animatesexual?"
> Not exactly. Animatesexual is, according to the LGBTA Wiki, 'feeling like it is difficult or impossible to be attracted towards people in real life.' While some self-shippers may be aromantic or asexual and feel little to no romantic or sexual attraction to other people, self-shippers can be of any sexuality and they may not be exclusively attracted to fictional characters."You are not enjoying your real life!"
> Self-shipping, like any other hobby, is just an activity people do because it makes them happy. If drawing themselves with an anime character makes them happy, then I don't see why they can't do it. It really does not hurt you one bit that they like to imagine themselves with a fictional character. I strongly advise you to block and not interact with them if it annoys you."Being in love with a fictional character is REALLY unhealthy!"
> It's only unhealthy if you're obsessed with the character to the point where you are unable to form connections with real people. Otherwise, it is completely fine and not hurting anyone.
Additional information
> Yumejoshi ≠ Fujoshi> Self-shippers are not necessarily in the LGBTQ+ community.> Do not s//ibait or harass other people with the same F/O as you, just block them.
--------------
Here are some things to note when interacting with self-shippers, you should always be sure to ask them about their boundaries:
> Some may not want you to interact with them if you have the same F/O(s) as them.
> Likewise, some may not want you to mention other ships of their F/Os
> You should mostly avoid hating on their F/Os in front of them.
